An informal weekend retreat that is to become a retirement home in due time, Houhere is nestled in the hills of Banks Peninsula.

Structural engineering from PTL enabled the use of a purposeful mix of naturally durable timber including trusses from macrocarpra and douglas fir that are a feature of the home. Bespoke seismic design of the plywood first floor bracing and ground floor steel rings assisted the architectural team achieve their desired look of openness, taking advantage of the water views and hillside vistas while letting in light and breeze.
