Completed in 2025, the Tāwhaki National Aerospace Centre hangar and office is a 30-metre-span timber portal frame structure, designed to support the growth of New Zealand’s aerospace sector. The project is the result of a joint venture between Kaitorete mana whenua and the Government, highlighting both the emerging aerospace industry and the striking landscape of Kaitorete.

The 600m² hangar features glulam (glued laminated timber) as the primary structural material, complemented by infill roof and wall cladding. This choice of engineered timber significantly reduces environmental impact, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional steel and concrete construction.

Close collaboration across the project team ensured a smooth and efficient construction process, delivered on time and within budget.
