Hands-on learning in Okuti Valley!

By Tiziana Baldini |

Earlier this week, three of our young engineers, Cameron, Will and Nadia, had the opportunity to step out of the office and into the field, assisting Andy Buchanan in restressing his Stress Laminated Timber (SLT) bridge in Okuti Valley, Little River!

The bridge, originally built in 2010, is a post-tensioned timber box girder, spanning 6.0 meters in length and 4.0 meters in width. Designed for logging trucks, it features LVL webs and sawn timber boards, stressed at the girder flanges with a total of 14 high-strength tendons. Using SLT enables these bridges to function as monolithic structures, significantly enhancing their strength, stiffness, and durability.
